Large Language Models have burst onto the scene with ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot tools. In this talk, we will explore Large Language Models (LLMs), particularly OpenAI’s GPT-3 model that both Copilot and ChatGPT are based upon. An introduction is provided to discuss how companies might train these tools to their own proprietary codebases and datasets. We will focus primarily on the code generation aspects of both tools and compare which might provide the most significant productivity boost for an actuary utilizing the SQL, VBA, R or Python programming languages. We will highlight both strengths and weakness of using these tools in an actuarial setting.
