Emerging risks challenge conventional risk management frameworks by introducing uncertainty in timing and impact, while requiring early awareness as a foundational step towards effective management. This session offers a practitioner’s perspective on how such risks can be systematically identified, assessed, and integrated into strategic and regulatory contexts. Drawing on experience from Munich Re and her current role as chair of the CRO Forum’s Emerging Risk Initiative Working Group on behalf of Munich Re, Michaela will highlight current industry approaches, governance practices, and the evolving role of actuaries and risk professionals in navigating future risk landscapes. The talk will also explore the key challenges in operationalizing emerging risk management and share practical insights into how organizations can strengthen their foresight and resilience in an increasingly complex risk environment.
